ERC Meeting of NC State Legislature Oct 9

PictureWill Creedmoor be the first?!
Yesterday, the Environmental Review Commission of the North Carolina State Legislature met in Raleigh. Creedmoor’s sewage plant was on the agenda. Tom Reeder, Director, North Carolina Division of Water Resources, made the presentation to the full committee for the public record. Several folks from Granville County were in attendance including County Commissioner Ed Mims and Del Mims, candidate for Creedmoor City Commissioner.

The take-away from Director Reeder’s presentation yesterday?

It will be easier for Creedmoor to break into Fort Knox than get a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) on the effluent discharge into the Tar River.

You can hear him in this audio clip talk about the endangered dwarf wedge mussel that the construction of this plant would further imperil.

So…Environmentally Destructive!

Director Reeder addresses in this clip what he considers to be the Major Issue!

The plant is unnecessary!  SGWASA has the capacity.

And we all know that it is financially insane!  Creedmoor has been overcharging its citizens for 7 years, even the county schools – Mayor Moss himself said that signing a contract with SGWASA would save the Creedmoor schools $140,000 a year!  Let’s get this money back into the hands of the citizens and children of Granville County!

It is time for The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners to drop this harebrained scheme and stop threatening the entire state with a plant that will not be approved.

It is 7 years past time for The Mayor and The'Ommissioners to sign a contract with SGWASA.

One More reason.....

Have some great reading material for everyone today.  Thought you might like a peek at the “secret negotiations” that Creedmoor is orchestrating with SGWASA. .

It’s no “secret”, however, that The Mayor and The ’Ommissioners continue to negotiate in bad faith.  But The ‘Ommissioners are at least consistent: bad idea, bad leadership, bad faith – Bad news for the citizens of Creedmoor.

So, Watch Out!  The 'Ommissioners and The Mayor have not given up their scheme to waste even more taxpayer money.  And what’s really bad, that would be YOUR money.

Happy reading!

"Oooh, that smell! Can't you smell that smell? The smell of mess surrounds you!"

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners KNOW that their pursuit of the totally unnecessary, environmentally destructive, and financially insane sewer plant has cost the citizens of Creedmoor millions of dollars in unnecessary expenses over the last seven years.

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners apparently aren’t bothered that the money has come right out of YOUR pockets and down their bottomless vanity pit.

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners are still in hot pursuit of this idea, even though Granville County has united in opposition, including the citizens of Creedmoor whom they are elected to represent!

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners just don’t get it, and certainly are not working for the benefit of the folks that live here in Creedmoor.

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners are negligent in trying to saddle the Citizens they are supposed to serve with both the highest monthly sewer and water bills in the area and a $51 million dollar debt obligation for the construction of this fiscally irresponsible sewage plant.

…and that’s why

Lots of folks here in Granville County are opposed to the unnecessary, environmentally destructive, and financially insane sewage plant The ‘Ommissioners want to build on Hester Road.

Chris Crowder and his family live near the site.  Here’s what he thinks about it.  Ran in Monday’s Oxford Ledger.

Mayor Moss and The ‘Ommissioners have very expensive tastes, supported by the taxpayers of Creedmoor.  The greatest example of their “wasteful” spending of public funds is the unnecessary, environmentally destructive, and financially insane sewage plant on Hester Road.

The cost of the plant to the 4,200 citizens of Creedmoor will be $51 million.

That’s $12,500 bucks of new debt for each of the 4,200 folks that live in Creedmoor, that includes hubby, the 3rd grader, and the brand new diaper user.

For the typical family of four living in Creedmoor, The Mayor and The ’Ommissioners are getting ready to add a new $50,000 tax obligation to your personal credit card.

Let’s think about this.  Your family already have water and sewer, don’t you?  SGWASA has the capacity to serve Creedmoor’s needs for the next 20 years (that’s running Creedmoor’s exaggerated growth projections, too!).

So, why are the The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners asking you to fund this plant?

The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners would rather stick you and your family with a $50,000 tax obligation than lose control, and lose their little “slush” fund!

It’s why...

Creedmoor, Flush with Money!

PictureFlush with money!
“Just saw in the newspaper where the city of Butner bought a piece of property on Central Avenue. The owner of the property wanted over $500,000 for it. Lo and behold, Butner paid for an appraisal and the land appraised for $300,000.00. Butner actually saved its citizenry $200,000 and threw "at arm's length" out the window!!!! Looks like Creedmoor needs to take lessons from Butner.”
                                                                                  Comment by “Inflamed”.

In case you missed it, front page article in The Butner Creedmoor News on Thursday, August 8,  “Butner Agrees to Purchase Land Next to Gazebo Park”

Another confirmation the folks in Creedmoor got rolled by The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners who continue to throw taxpayer’s hard-earned money at an unnecessary, environmentally destructive, and financially insane sewage plant.

And that’s many folks’ “arms length” assessment of why...

PictureTakes a pillage to build this plant.
Thought everyone might like to see the document with the offer from SGWASA to Creedmoor, made almost exactly one year ago.

Still on the table while Creedmoor desperately negotiates not to join SGWASA, but to build its very own unnecessary, environmentally destructive, and financially insane sewage plant!

One very interesting thing, The Mayor says joining SGWASA will save a Creedmoor citizen $300 a year on water and sewer.  SGWASA says the overcharge by Creedmoor is over $500!

This financial irresponsibility by The Mayor and The ‘Ommissioners is now in its seventh year!!  (Do the arithmetic! 7 years x $500 =$3500!  in overcharges on your water and sewer bill.)

What's the hold up on joining SGWASA?

Creedmoor.

And, Creedmoor is holding up its own citizens!

That’s why…

Why can’t Mayor Moss say on TV or to the press what he says to the citizens here in Creedmoor?

In Creedmoor Mayor Moss says Creedmoor should join SGWASA because building the sewage plant will make the water and sewer bills increase for the citizens of Creedmoor by $650 a year. The Mayor says joining SGWASA will lower the water and sewer bills for the citizens by $300 a year.

On TV The Mayor justifies the plant with this, “We’d like to find ourselves in a situation where we are able to lower our rates for our citizens and provide capacity for our community to continue to grow and develop from an economic standpoint.”

Wait a minute!

LOWER our rates by building the plant?!

Whoa. That is “counter to the facts”, Mayor Moss.

AND you know it.

Folks can’t figure out what The Mayor has to lose by speaking up for the people of Creedmoor instead of being a hand maiden for The ‘Ommissioners.

Mayor Moss had 4 missed opportunities in the last month to advocate to the press what a bad idea this plant really is and how outrageously expensive building it will be for Creedmoor’s citizens.

Each time he ducked.

Why doesn’t The Mayor let one of The ‘Ommissioners handle talking to the press if he can’t advocate for the people?

Or does The Mayor really want the plant too?

After all, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then…

PictureWho's driving this car?!

Since SGWASA’s creation in 2006, Creedmoor has refused to join and become a full-fledged “put up or shut up” member. Creedmoor insists its infrastructure must be bought by SGWASA. Creedmoor would not fold into the regional water authority because Creedmoor had more infrastructure than Stem or anybody else, so Creedmoor’s system had to be purchased!

Where does this “beggar your neighbor” negotiating point leave Creedmoor’s Citizens?

The Creedmoor infrastructure has been bought and paid for 1 time already by Creedmoor citizens through taxes, fees, and water and sewer bills.

Now let’s just pretend that The Creedmoor ‘Omissioners accept the coerced offer on the table (since last August) of $13.5 million from SGWASA for the infrastructure.

Who will have to pay off that $13.5 million purchase price for Creedmoor’s infrastructure?

Why ALL the SGWASA users of course, including the Citizens of Creedmoor.  The ‘Ommissioners’ terrific negotiating skills will make Creedmoor folks pay twice for the infrastructure!

WHAT A DEAL!  And that is one more reason...

Detroit or Bust!

PictureComes with a free lunch!

Detroit, eighteenth largest city in the USA, has just declared bankruptcy. Gone bust, flat-out broke!

The Creedmoor 'Ommissioners seem to want to take Creedmoor down that same financially irresponsible road with the proposed Hester Road sewage plant.

Here's the arithmetic The 'Ommissioners haven't shown you.
Cost of the sewage plant:

$27.4 million, financed with a 3.5% fixed-rate, 40-year loan from USDA
which means that with interest, the total cost of the sewage plant to the citizens of Creedmoor will be about $51 million which translates to a loan payment of about $100,000 per month.

According to The Mayor, we have 4,200 folks living in Creedmoor with about 2,000 using City water and sewer.  So, that $100,000 monthly payment gets divided equally among the current 2,000 Creedmoor users.  Works out to be about $50 more per month, or over $600 more per year for sewer and water you already have!

Can you afford this?
Got an extra $600 just laying around?

If we can’t afford to repay the loan, why are we building this unnecessary sewage plant?

Always wanted to live in “Detroit”, how 'bout you?
